Homogenization, Lysis for Biological Samples and Coating Technique for Microfluidic Chips

In in vitro diagnosis (IVD), biological samples are usually required to take some processes such as homogenization and lysis before testing. For example, in blood analysis and diagnosis, a rapid homogenizing process is required when blood samples are mixed with reagents or diluents. For the diagnosis based on PCR polymerase chain reaction technology, it is important to peel and break the biological samples on the sampling swab before testing. The conventional processes of homogenization and lysis are to use some mechanical methods such as swing, rotation, stirring, etc. These methods usually give low efficiency and performance of process. The sonication process by ultrasonic oscillation and acoustic cavitation can obtain significantly high efficiency, lysis ratio and controllability. Therefore, it is regarded as a more effective method for sample processes in IVD industry.

Siansonic, as an applied ultrasonic technology expert with nearly 40 years of experience, provides various ultrasonic sample processing products and solutions including invasive, wet non-invasive, dry non-invasive and focused ultrasound to many IVD instrument manufacturers in the world. Siansonic's unique 'dry type' non-invasive sonication device can transfer high frequency ultrasonic energy into the samples by only touching the sample containers such as PCR tubes or microfluidic devices without using any coupling agent either. Elastic device is included to give a better contact with container walls and high efficiency transmission of ultrasonic energy. Compact design of the sonication device allows it to be able to easily integrate into customers' diagnostic instruments.

Benefits of Siansonic sonication devices for IVD

  • Non-invasive sonication, no contacting to the samples

  • Coupling agent is unnecessary, keep sample containers clean

  • Suitable for small volume process in μL scale

  • Capable of fitting different microfluidic devices

  • Easy to integrate into IVD equipment

In addition, Siansonic ultrasonic spray coating technology with many unique advantages can be used for depositing various functional coatings onto IVD devices such as active layers, hydrophilic and hydrophobic layers. See "biosensors and microfluidic devices" for details.
